(PREVIEW) Live Notification

(PREVIEW) Live Notification

PREVIEW features are released in production but are only available on demand and activated on a case-by-case basis.

Overview

Live Notification is a feature bringing activated tickets directly on phone the lock screen, when they are needed just before the event, making the tickets just one tap away. Finding and opening your tickets at the gate is now as simple and convenient as with Apple or Google Wallets.

Key highlights:

  • Event-day visibility — Key ticket information remains easy to access when it matters most

  • Simple navigation — Tapping the notification opens the tickets

  • Focus information — Content is focused on the spectator’s immediate needs

In more details:

How it works

The Live Notification feature depends on several dimensions: the event type and the ticket seating details determine what information are relevant, and the mobile platform determines how the notification is presented.

The principle is to show the Live Notification shortly before the event and until its end. Typically, the notification appears once tickets are activated. For tickets activated long before the event, it will be a configurable number of hours before the event start.

Live notifications leverage the native components available on iOS and Android for a seamless user experience:

  • iOS: the notification is a Live Activity appearing on the Lock Screen. On supported devices, it also appears in the Dynamic Island.

  • Android: the notification is a persistent notification. It can be viewed collapsed or expanded in the notification shade.

The live notification cannot start when the app is closed in the background. It is also subject to user approval, requested the first time by the mobile operating system.

Notification timeline

The notification can have up to three phases. The content changes automatically as the event progresses:

  • Pre-entry: shown after ticket activation and before the gates open. It presents the event identity and the venue name.

  • Gate opening: shown when a gate-opening time is configured. It highlights the configured entry point, using “Enter through …” followed by the configured ticket seating detail, typically the Gate.

  • Post-entry: shown after the ticket has been controlled. It confirms the post-entry state while helping the user navigate in the venue by surfacing the most detailed seating details (as many as the space allows), typically Block, Row, Seat ...

    • Only “Numbered tickets” show seating details on the Post entry state. “Non-numbered” tickets do not show seating details

If there is no gate opening time defined for the event, there are only two phases: pre-entry and post-entry

iOS Dynamic Island

On supported iPhone models, iOS will automatically show the Live Activity in the Dynamic Island, allowing users to quickly access the tickets with just one tap or view their seating details without opening the app.

Collapsed view

The app logo is displayed on the left, and the number of tickets on the right

How it is configured

Activate the feature

This feature is currently in PREVIEW, only activated on demand and on a case-by-case basis.

Activation is currently global for the whole application.

Configure when live notification appears

To start live notifications, spectators must open the app.

We recommend setting up a push notification to remind spectators that they have a ticket for today at the beginning of the rollout or for non-regular spectators. Schedule this reminder for a chosen time after the configured start time of the live notification.

There are 2 modes to trigger the Live Notification start:

By Activation rule: The Live notification starts upon ticket activation, in other words when the barcode starts to be displayed on the tickets.

Before event start: With this mode, the live notification will be displayed “x” hours before the Event start

Application Settings related to Live notifications

To select the mode:

  1. Access to Setting screen and open setting key “Live notification start timing mode”

  2. Open the setting key and select the mode you want to use

  3. In case you select “Before event start” mode, you have another configuration to work on

  4. Open setting key “Live notification starts offset in hours before event start” and input the suitable value (1-8 default 4)

How to set Offset Hours

Offset Hours allow you to choose how many hours before the anchor time the live notification will start. The anchor time is the gate opening time when it is defined (see next section); otherwise, it is the event start time.

The system also respects the activation trigger: when both an activation trigger and an offset are configured, the later time (the one closest to the event) is used. For example, if tickets are activated 2 hours before the event and the notification offset is set to 1 hour before the event, the live notification starts 1 hour before the event. It cannot start 3 hours before the event, because that would be earlier than the ticket activation time.

All times are based on the event time zone.

On iOS, Live Activities can run for a maximum of 8 hours so plan accordingly.

In general, we recommend configuring the live notification start shortly before gate opening, ideally at a time most spectators will start their travel to the event.

Configure the gate-opening state

By default, if the organizer does not configure a gate-opening time, Live Notification has two states: pre-entry and post-entry.

To enable the gate-opening state:

  1. Edit the event from the event list in Backoffice.

  2. Open the Details tab.

  3. Select the Gate opening checkbox.

  4. Enter the gate-opening time.

At the configured gate-opening time, Live Notification changes from the pre-entry state to the gate-opening state.

Configure the value displayed in the gate-opening state

In the gate-opening state, Live Notification displays “Enter through “ followed by gate information by default. You can configure which ticket detail key is displayed instead of Gate in either of the following ways:

Option 1: Configure globally

  1. Access to setting screen.

  2. Open the Application Setting tab.

  3. Select “(TIXNGO V4) Recommended entry point (external entrance, gate, area) displayed in the activation screen”

Option 2: Configure differently for some tickets

  1. Open the corresponding Ticket Design Rule.

  2. Open the Advanced tab.

  3. Select Ticket detail key display on activation screen:

Option 3: Configure differently for some events

  1. Edit the event from the event list in Backoffice.

  2. Open the Ticket design customization tab.

  3. Select Ticket detail key display on activation screen.

If all settings are configured, the system prioritizes the value configured in this order: Event > Ticket Design Rule > Application Setting

Troubleshooting

Notifications dismissed

Notifications, even live ones, can be dismissed explicitly by the user by swiping them on the Lock Screen. Opening again the app will re-create the live notification.

App permissions

Live notifications display is subject to user giving permission to the app. iOS or Android will request the necessary permission the first time it is needed.

If no live notification is displayed at all, you can check the following relevant app permissions:

iOS: toggle Live activities

Android: toggle Live updates
