Detecting the workstation without the Java applet
The end of life for Java applets in Firefox is planned for the end of 2016. While this external technological constraint entails a change, we strive to offer you a solution that improves your experience. We have developed an add-on for Firefox in order to offer you a quick and easy alternative to replace the workstation detection applet.
- The first improvement concerns the removal of the workstation detection screen and the loading of the applet in question. This screen previously appeared between the login screen and the main screen of SecuTix 360º. With the add-on, detection is performed directly on the login screen.
- The second improvement is the type of detection. The add-on uses the name of your computer as an identifier. This means that a network change (Wi-Fi, VPN, LAN) has no impact on this identifier. In other words, laptop users no longer need to configure multiple workstations or change the configuration of their workstation at each change of network.
On installing the add-on, the workstation is detected via this module on loading SecuTix 360º or on the workstation configuration screen. In the absence of the add-on, the applet is used.
Note that the migration of the workstation identifier is automatic. Following installation of the add-on (and provided that identification via the applet was performed previously), the workstation will be updated at first connection with the new value provided by the add-on. It is therefore not initially necessary to reconfigure all of your workstations.
